19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent saved four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
