PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
